My first-year prof assigned pages from this and gave us his own abbreviated cases instead of making us buy a casebook. Overall, not a bad deal! Thanks Prof! Nonetheless, the reading from this was probably skippable and he didn't really assign enough of the book to warrant purchasing it (rather than skipping it or grabbing a reserve copy.)Now, if you're just looking for a nice big property treatise, this is probably a great buy for you. But if you're just getting assigned a couple of pages a night from it for a law class, I wouldn't bother.
This book really helped me understand the concepts behind the cases. It is excellent because it is written by the same author as my property casebook, and it goes into further detail. It's not an E&E, but it's similar to the idea of the Con Law Chemerinsky supplement (same set up, same publisher, etc). I had difficulty following the professor because she hadn't taught the course in years and this really helped me hone in on the black letter law. I have used the Con Law supplement similar to this throughout the semester to supplement my reading, but I used this property supplement only to draft my outline, and it worked pretty darn well.Word of warning: don't get hung up on things that weren't in the Singer casebook, or weren't discussed in class. This book goes into A LOT of detail about certain topics we did not even discuss in our class. Other law schools offer two semesters of property, but ours was only one semester so it was easy to get distracted with certain nuances or sub-topics.Good luck!
I picked up this book because I was unable to get through my standard Hornbook on property. Let's fact it, although comprehensive, most Hornbooks are too comprehensive and the material makes for dry boring reading punctuated by multiple citations pointing out the inevitable contradictory rulings or exceptions. This book however is a gem. Although not comprehensive in each topic, it does cover the bread and better topics very adequately. The writing is such that the book is easy to read and the points come clearly across. The author even includes "hard" cases in which a particular topic is discussed with arguments for and against a certain position taken in Property Law. I would recommend that for those finding their traditional book tough going, buy this book and read the relevant chapters first and then go back to your text which will be much more comprehensible.Overall, I would highy recommend this book as it provides a sound foundation with clear examples, straigthforward writing, and effective communication.
Excellent treatise on one of the most complex common law subjects. Recommended to anyone who wants an in depth understanding of the law of property.

This book is a great supplement. The book came as described and quickly.
This is a good review for a standard property course. However, this book has drawbacks because the subject matter covered in the text is limited and may not ecompass everything taught. Definately recomend that if you purchase that you pick up another supplement.
I booked my Property class because of this supplement. If you ask me, the casebook is awful. It gives no context. This text gives a broad overview of the topics and the analytical framework necessary if you have an essay-heavy exam. Read this first, then the cases to pick up on the nitty-gritty. Yes, this means you'll be doing a lot of reading... but it's completely worth it if you are looking for the top grade in your class.
