4.5 out of 5 starsThe Foundation centers around a corrupt Washington DC think tank (aren't they all, a little?) The Foundation is attempting to take control of the US in more than one way and affect global issues with little or no care for the loss of life. Jack Emery, a Pulitzer-winning writer happens to stumble across this conspiracy after a terrorist attack takes everything from him. Emery will give up almost everything he has left to cut the head off of this snake.Steve P. Vincent's writing reminded me of other Thriller writers like Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, and Jack Higgins. It just had that raw and gutsy feeling that great thrillers have. I would be on the lookout for Vincent. The cover really sucked me into this one. I love thrillers, especially ones set in or around DC. My wife went to school there and when we were dating, I spent a lot of time there. So it's nice to recognize areas that the author is referring to.Jack Emery as the main character was interesting. He wasn't the perfect spy or assassin. He is a darn good journalist with nothing left to lose. I loved the simplicity of it. It allowed Emery to surprise me as a reader. The Foundation did a lot of puddle-jumping from place to place and which kept the action pegged at 100mph. Every time I thought things would setting down for Emery or that everything would finally work out I was thrown back into the dark, unsure of what would come next. The narration for The Foundation was done by Jeffrey Kafer, who does a perfect job with this. His voice added the exact amount of edge that this story needed and allowed the story to flow perfectly. I've been listening to Kafer for some time now and he always adds more to already good stories. He did it again with The Foundation.I'm definitely excited to listen to more stories in the Jack Emery series, and I hope that Vincent teams up with Kafer for more.Overall, a really well thought out thriller with lots of action and also makes you think, "oh crap, this could happen".
Award winning journalist Jack Emery was in a bad place – the hangover from his over indulgence the night before was wicked but it was becoming normal for him. He couldn’t bear it if his marriage to Erin ended in divorce. And when Jack lost the contract he’d dreamed would be his he was shattered. But worse was to come – attacks on Shanghai with thousands killed meant Jack was to be front line on a US war ship; he would send the news from the China sea direct to the US public…The Foundation was headed by a ruthless team of people with deputy director Michelle Dominique determined to control the world. Part of her strategy was to own the largest media empire in the world and Ernest McDowell, owner of EMCorp was the person Michelle needed to buy. Ernest was Jack’s boss and gradually the net tightened around them all. What would happen when Jack came face to face with a bigger danger than he had ever faced before? It seemed war was inevitable – could Jack do anything to stop the power plays or was it far too big for him?The Foundation by Aussie author Steve P. Vincent is a fast-paced, tense and gripping political thriller that had me on the edge of my seat a lot of my reading journey! A thoroughly enjoyable read, The Foundation is one I highly recommend.
UK. There were lots of so-called bad rumors about Ernest McDowell (Jack’s boss, EMCorp media billionaire owner/chairman).Sandra Cheng (Ernest’s wife, EMCorp media Foundation’s director, former lawyer) has been hospitalized. The Shanghai International Expo Centre will host the WTO conference. What news did Ernest have for Duncan McColl (EMCorp media CFO/board member)?Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology & Law was on day 7 grilling Ernest& Saul Alweiss (EMCorp media Director of Legal Affairs).Senator Patrick Mahoney (Dem; MA, Committee chairman), & Francis McKay (Business Daily reporter) seemed to be enjoying the outcome.Michelle Dominique (New America Foundation Director) & Sarah McDowell (Ernest’s daughter) were watching closely.Vanessa Dunstan (West Coast), Bruno Cagliari (New England), Duke Callister (South), Mike Douglas (Midwest), & Mark Harrison (Mountain), were having a very important EMCorp media Foundation deputy director meeting. The Chinese Ambassador to the US, Mr. Du Xiaoming was killed in a motor vehicle accident. What became of Michelle & Sarah?I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written international thriller book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great international thriller movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.Thank you for the free author; Pronoun; Amazon Digital Services LLC.; bookTony Parsons MSW (Washburn)
