Back to Reality is a delightful, hilarious, and at times poignant, romp through the multiverse with a lively cast of characters you won’t soon forget. If you’re a fan of time travel and body swap stories like Back to the Future and Freaky Friday (with a little Bridget Jones's Diary peppered in), you’ll definitely enjoy the ride with Jo, Yo, and their respective motley crews. The Two Marks of The Bestseller Experiment fame have written a terrifically entertaining story about second chances and figuring out what really matters to you, no matter what universe you’re currently living in. Back to Reality will tickle your funny bone and touch your heart. The only reason I’m giving it four stars is because I save my 5-star ratings for books that very nearly change my emotional DNA, but if you’re looking for a sublimely entertaining, fast-paced story, look no further. You're going to love this book!
BACK TO REALITY combines body-switching, time travel, rock and roll, doubledecker buses, karaoke, and New Age gurus with a wicked sense of humor and the pacing of a good thriller. But it's more than the sum of its parts. Authors Stay and Oliver have also crafted a feel-good novel that addresses midlife regret and artistic integrity. It's "Spinal Tap" meets "Back to the Future" meets "Freaky Friday." And perfect for anyone who's wise in years but young at heart.
It's wishful to think there's a parallel universe where I'm a best selling author negotiating movie rights for my fifth book. But for Jo, the lead of this charming British romp through time and space, a chance to actually live her own rock star parallel life plunges her into madcap adventures and personal dilemmas. I'm an avid listener of the Two Marks and their podcast The Bestseller Experience where they document the writing of this novel. As such, I eagerly read my advanced copy in 48 hours...didnt want to put it down. It's a lovely, light page turner with a sense of humor, crazy characters, and real heart. My takeaways from this fun read? The grass isn't always greener in your other life and who needs a DeLorean when you have a cow? Thanks Marks for a really fantastic ride!
Full disclosure: I was a podcast listener for months before I read the book, and I actually discovered the podcast after the book had been released. I'm sure having Marks' voices in my head as I read it contributed to my enjoyment, but I found it a solid, well-crafted, entertaining book regardless. I love stories that involve music or the music industry, so that was a bonus, as was the very British voice and vocabulary. I had trouble envisioning the "transfers between universes" as they were written--it didn't come off clean and "logical" like it would need to in a movie--but I just accepted what they were describing and moved on. Both lead characters get rich, satisfying arcs and I'm sure parts of the story will stay with me for a while to come.

What if these choices created a divergent reality and different "you" was living the life you dreamed of?Jo finds out what could have been after a wild night out of repressed Karaoke singing when she meets her other self Yohanna living her dream. A funny and frenetic story sure to give you a chortle and a sniffle. The Glastonbury Festival, a loopy guru, a homicidal 90's Pop Star and a flipping cow mix it up with our heroine and the chance at her dream life. I liked this story until the authors just had to compare trump to Hitler. I read to escape politics. So that ruined this story for me. Glad I only paid $3 for it.
This is a wonderful book. I’ve followed The Bestseller Experiment podcast since its inception and was rooting for the two Marks in their quest to write a bestseller in just 52 weeks. And by Jove, they’ve done it.While “Back to Reality†is not the usual type of book I read, I was eager to sink my teeth into it. I received an advance copy and could not put it down.With dry British humor, the book takes the reader on a whale of an adventure that is nonstop and fabulous. One travels through space and time with the hope of reconciling one’s dreams with one’s reality being one of the central themes.The characters are pitch-perfect, fleshed out and real. You root for Jo and for Yohanna, willing them to success and fame, and also to a resolution of their truest desires. The cast of surrounding characters is raucous, imbibing the book with endless nuggets of charm and hilarity.I loved this book and recommend it highly. Well done to the two Marks!
